So, I finally settled upon a logo...

After months of trial and error and complete and utter garbage, I've finally powered through it and came up with/designed an effective here it is-

Adventures in AfterEffects!

So, I started to finally try and explore Adobe AfterEffects these past days/now going on months rather...I actually finished this like a month or so ago, but just now have gotten around to actually posting my bad folks. :)

This was sort of just an experimental video I did to kind of try out and play around with Adobe it's pretty much one of if not the first real thing I've done with AE...the project was as a whole with this video was to try out new stuff in AE and play around with trying to better teach myself the program. I still have a long way to go...but here's my start.

The video was done using both AfterEffects, and Premiere. Some of the footage used was stock footage I gathered and then later altered/edited...the rest for the most part was filmed and or created by me.
Audio is a mix of a variety of different stuff from/by- ambient sounds, The Legendary Pink Dots, The XX, and Nachtreich...all edited and complied together into a track.

Gravity: it's the one force that keeps us here...stable...our feet on the ground.
The one undeniable truth is that despite how we rise,
we all fall...try as we might- to rise off the ground we can't stand; stable, firm, and unyielding.
Strong and resistant to the winds of conflict and the divergences of everyday;
we clash against this gravity- against this defeat like waves.
We are the waters of the ocean, hitting the shore...only to retreat.
Our eyes opened to this truth...a dancer in wildfire- stepping, leaping over flames.
We as mankind will always fall, fail...and face these odds against our rival-gravity. This defeat is our purpose but also our promise...and yet against all odds- against gravity itself...
there is another truth; we all get up- rise, rise up and fight, dance for survival, for the promise that while our feet now touch the ground beneath us one day we will stand, ascending, unbroken, we will awaken and we will fly.
The perception predates and precedes us; it is now and it is thus.

Future Cosplay...

So, after me and the lovely Allison Cundiff did some planning last night...we both came up with a brilliant cosplay idea....

I had some time today after going out and running some errands...I got home and set myself to work on a concept drawing for our costume...

Alas I'll let the image speak for itself...

Done one lazy Thursday afternoon...created in Adobe Illustrator

DING! DING! DING!! I think we have a winner! (Logo & Business Card)

So after posting my past design's and logo considerations as well as a rough business card design, on the CCAD Animation Collective's facebook page (seriously the best organization at CCAD in my opinion :3), I recieved a ton of helpful feedback from was great!

So, after alot of feedback and really helpful critiques I used the original designs sort of as a jumping off point and a basis of inspiration...

I really changed alot and pretty much the whole design...I think I like this one a whole lot better though!

(Also, as a side not the logo design, and the front of the business card are both ambigram's meaning it's the same right side up as it is upside down :3...yep pretty cool I think...and suprisingly harder to do than one might think...)

Ah, well enough it is!!!

-Enjoy! <3

I think this is all in all a vast improvement from where it was before in my opinion, but like all things there's still room for if you have any suggestions or critiques please leave some. It would be absolutely lovely to get feedback of any kind. :)

Business Card's Anyone?

I also was dabbling around with the first of the logo's which is the one I think as of late I'm leaning towards unless anyone else wants to weigh in...

But yea, neither here nor there...check out these sort of test business cards I made! :)

Opinions? Helpful hints? I'm all ears amigo's...

Logo's Anyone?

So, during this summer I wanted to continue working on the side on several small projects here and of which is creating a logo for myself.

I wanted something that embodies both me as a person and an artist...that reflects who I am and reflects the work that I do...

I wanted to as Charlotte Belland says keep it "Lovely Dirty"...

Here's a handful of some logo's I've come up with all similar in a way only with minor differences here and there...

Which ones do you like?

Design for Media #7

Project Duncan (Week 7)

Finished! Finito!!

"Distortion" (An Interactive Piece)

Video Glasses Test/Experiment-"Distortion" (An Interactive Piece) from Hannah Rivera on Vimeo.

So, what I decided to do for the last week on this project was to try and figure out some way to make this piece interactive...

So, I went to try out the head of MFA here at CCAD, Ric Petry's video glasses...which he so graciously let me borrow over the weekend...because he is super rad and awesome! :)

(Thank you Ric! :3)

So, yep...I went forth and had my video playing inside the glasses and had people watch it while I filmed their reactions and first impressions...

Here's what I got!

-Enjoy! <3

(Also as a side note! We really ought to get these things for the gallery here at CCAD :l just saying...ahem *hint hint* ;P)

This project was probably the most enjoyable yet...and I must say I'm kinda sad to see that it is all over...well here's to you Design for Media!!!

Cheers it's been Real Daddy-O! Catch you all on the flip-side! ;3

Design for Media #6

Project Duncan (Week 6)

So, I cut down the run time of my video drastically from last week...going from 5min 11sec down to 3mins and 6secs...

I think this cut helped the piece exponentially! It flows way better, and based on the feedback received last class, the final outcome of my project I am far more satisfied with.

So, thank you everyone! For the helpful suggestions and feedback received! You guy's are great! :3

Final Version! of D4M/Project Duncan!
"Distortion "

This is a experimental video based/inspired by David Lynch's "Distorted Nudes" book.

The video itself focuses on the subject matter of dreams and nightmares and the distortion of that reality and our perceptions during it; how during the strangeness of a dream or during the terror of a nightmare one is utterly and essentially nude and vulnerable to the situation and the experience. This is much like how one is literally and essentially nude and vulnerable sexually.

Thus, I chose to display images and visuals that were abstract in nature but also in a way nightmarish, and sexual at the same time. I wanted something that was beautiful, strange, scary, nightmarish, and sensual all at the same time...

This is what I got...

And I have to say that I am quite thrilled with the results! :D

The music was all mixed and the final outcome/product of it essentially made and complied by me. In the video is a variety of different sounds and tracks made by me on Soundtrack Pro, Aviary, and mixed with two David Lynch songs, and with part of a Hex Vessel song mixed in reverse.

All this thrown and mixed together is what makes the audio; much like how the footage is all thrown together and carefully pieced and overlayed to create a visual of distortion and abstract imagery.

Moreover, I have to say that this project was for me what "Distorted Nudes" was for David Lynch, it allowed me to experiment with and learn Final Cut Pro more proficiently. This whole experience was fantastic and I absolutely loved every second of "Project Duncan". :)

Now for next week, the final week for this project I'm still unsure of what I'm going to do exactly but I was thinking of maybe trying to figure out a way to creatively present my final piece in an engaging and interactive way. :)

Stay tuned!

ZOETROPE! Completed!

Ladies and Gentlemen! We finished the Zoetrope!!!
 "rave man" (a ZOETROPE animation)

So, both me and my lovely partner Jamie Yuhasz both finished work on our final for Experimental Animation!

What we have is the following:

-Part One
(Stop-Motion Animation, "The Creation of a ZOETROPE")

-Part Two
(Video, "The ZOETROPE in Action")

Our intent for/with this project was to show our process with the actual project (i.e. construction, etc.) and then show the actual piece itself in action after completion.

We wanted to try our hand at something neither of us had ever attempted before or rather had even heard of before. This was the first experience or knowledge either of us had regarding a Zoetrope. We also wanted to try and focus on and explore the areas of motion and light; while also creating a project that was both unique in the realm of experimental animation but also one that was engaging enough yet still provided a broad opportunity for exploration on our part. We wanted a broad creative outlet to really explore the idea of a Zoetrope, while also leaving it open enough for our own development and interpretation.

Also we wanted more than anything to create something that is both enjoyable and fun!

It wasn't what we initially had planned for the project, but what resulted I believe was more than satisfactory; and I think I speak for the both of us in that we are quite pleased with the results. :)

Design for Media #5

Project Duncan (Week 5)

So I wrapped up filming and started editing my footage late last week or so...I've been working on it here and there trying to improve on it some... :l it's a very long tedious and brutal process...(between battling broken AC's, solitary and often maddening editing in a private lab/closet, curious and often irritating interruptions...and the works...)

I have something close to, if not finished I think by now. :)

The initial video before this was like 6mins 30secs or something, so I cut it down quite a bit...

Also I mixed together various songs, made some of my own and sort of just put them together to keep with the experimental quality and factor with this project.

This editing process both with the audio and the footage, was literally a great and amazing opportunity for allowed me to mess with, experiment, and try new things with both Final Cut Pro, and also with Soundtrack Pro as well.

I honestly feel like this whole editing process was a fantastic and worthwhile learning experience for me. I mean by just fiddling around with/in these programs I've discovered a variety of different things and learned a multitude of stuff one can do in these programs. Including but not limited to...making strobe lights in Final Cut Pro! :D

So, here's what I have!!!

Bare with me, I know that I probably have way more editing to do on this/that could be done on it...I'm aware of this fact. :o

I just got it to this point right now and am at a standstill, I've developed tunnel vision with if any of you have suggestions or things that might help/improve the final piece...please let me know!

I am all ears! :D

ZOETROPE! Progress!

I figured since my partner in crime on this project posted progress, that I should as well...

So, the lovely Miss. Jamie Yuhasz and I are making a Zoetrope for our Experimental Animation final...

Here's what we have so far...!

Also, we plan on doing a Stop-Motion video of our process creating the Zoetrope and of our initial construction...the final portion will be a video showing the Zoetrope/all four parts of it in action!!!

It'll be quite the show! More progress soon!!!

(As a side note! YAY! First non-d4m post! lol)

Design for Media #4

Project Duncan (Week 4)

So, I started filming! I filmed a total of 3 different models, 1 male, 2 female. It was my first experience filming nude figures so was awkward a bit but definitely a positive learning experience!

I've pretty much finished filming it all. I've also begun editing it, so hopefully I'll have either some screenshots showing my process on editing or the finished product!

I also just learned how to make contact sheets in Adobe Bridge too so yay! :D

Thus, what I have for you all this week are some of the stills from what I've filmed...

-Enjoy! <3

Design for Media #3

Project Duncan (Week 3)

So, sadly I wasn't able to start the actual filming for the final process of the project.

So, I decided to step back and think about what I could do, and what I really should/need to do for the project at this current point. So, I thought about it and decided the best course of action to take probably before I started the actual filming was to get all my duck's in a row and do some tests first.

So, I filmed a little of myself...just close-ups of my bare shoulder and my mouth doing scary weird funny faces; then took the test footage I had a conducted some tests, screwing around with green screens/overlays, and effects to see how I might want the final to look and feel.

The test's in themselves provided some interesting results I think, and because of them/these results I feel I have a better understanding of what I might want the final to look like.

Here are some varying screenshot's of me messing around in Final Cut Pro, and conducting some tests, as well as some actual test footage:

(Test Footage)

So, all in all I feel like I now have more of a direction and plan of action!! :D

Oh! Also, I made some music to go along with the video in Soundtrack Pro...but I'll prolly debut that in the final video! ;P <3

Design for Media #2

Project Duncan (Week 2)

So, I did some planning for this week, planning out some compositions and different shots I may want to try. The drawings themselves are just some quick sketchy/gestural like ones I did real quick given an hour in Photoshop...

These are basically just so I have an idea of what I'm aiming for. So nothing too amazing or special... :l

Also I was thinking of maybe doing something with green screen, along the lines of texture/design or pattern. So, I made some green screens right here in Photoshop.

Again nothing too amazing. Though I'm excited to see them in action working with/overlayed on top the footage...

In regards to footage, I took some test footage of myself that I plan on using for tests...which I'll post on here sometime soon. Also, this Friday I'm hoping to start filming the first of three of my models. :)

Stay tuned! <3

Design for Media #1

Project Duncan (Week 1)

So for the next project…Project Duncan…

I want to do something experimental…

I thought about this project over spring break some and initially was thinking of perhaps filming a scene from a screenplay/script I had written last semester in screenwriting (but after reviewing it I realized it was an ambitious endeavor for only 4 weeks…so I scraped that idea).

Over break, and as of late I’ve found myself on a David Lynch kick…(all break was spent watching Twin Peaks xP)

My inspiration actually came from a book my boyfriend showed my- “Distorted Nudes”, a book of photo-manipulations done by David Lynch when he was in the process of learning Photoshop.

I was bouncing around the idea of photo-manipulation…like in the book, but I decided that doing something manipulated/distorted and experimental with video would be a more interesting approach and a more beneficial learning experience as a whole.

Concept wise I was thinking of exploring distortion…distortion of reality, nightmares, fever, illness/hallucinations, etc. (the idea in part came from me being sick and feverish for half of the break…I’m only now recovering :l)

Ideas & Inspiration/Sources of Reference:

(David Lynch)

 (Other Photos/Reference)

Here it is basically…all laid out for you…

So, I want to do an experimental video…

Explore distortion, nightmares, fevers, blurred reality…

Explore using and implementing compositing, green/blue screening, and other effects, in both Adobe After Effects and Final Cut Pro…

Week by Week:

Wk 1- Planning it all out/tests, etc.

Wk 2- Shooting footage/video, possible initial editing/tests.

Wk 3- Editing

Wk 4- Final, all my shit better be done! ;D

Design for Media #3

Project Ron Saks (Week 3)-FINAL!!!

So it's the final week of "The Invisible Man"/Project Saks...!

;D Here's what I have for you all...

This project was a great learning experience, not only to work with other people, but also learn about others while viewing them through the lens of my camera…

I took a lot from this experience it was a great opportunity to try my hand at more documentary like film-making.

Jim, I filmed for most of the night through his LAN party and the emergency trip we had to make to the store to get an Ethernet cable/Router.

It was interesting to see how the group at the party interacted with one another. Also it was very interesting for me to see not only this interaction, but also the various dynamic and intimate relationships both Jim and his friends shared with one another.

(As a side note, my apologies regarding the length of Henry’s Video…all parts I feel work well in the video as a whole…however if given a couple more weeks, I more than likely would drastically cut it down in length.)

Henry, I filmed being interviewed by his close friend in the Marines-Greg. It was insightful for me, and overall a very worthy experience as whole.

It was a very engrossing interview, laid back and casual, like two buddies merely swapping stories. There was depth to this interview and many things I think were revealed not only about Henry but also the whole experience of a soldier and war in general.

I never expected to take as much from this project as I did, but I learned/experienced a different style of filming, and also getting to know someone. Each member of my group was fantastic to work with; each one was easy to get along with yet prompt and dependable whilst working on this project.

It was a great experience, and I really wouldn’t mind working with the both/either of them again in the future.

Project Saks.

Project Ron Saks (Week 2)

So, change of plans folks!

Turns out the D&D game is now changed to a LAN party! And is taking place at the house of one of Jim's friends.

All in all should still be pretty damn interesting!

Stay tuned! :D

Design for Media #2

Project Ron Saks (Week 2)

This past Sunday, the group documented a part of my everyday life; they all came over and chronicled me and a friend/neighbor’s cat date! :D

(Beautiful Photo of my lovely & handsome boy Fenriz, taken by: Henry Scott)

It was an intimate exploration of the loving relationship I share with my cat/son, Fenriz ;P

For Next Week!

Since I was the subject for this week’s post/part of the project (I was portrayed as a cat lady >.>" essentially...)

Me and Henry are following around Jim, and documenting his D&D campaign/game.

All the action will take place this Friday at 6-6:30PM on the first floor of KH!

I’m going to be filming the campaign, and have come up with some things I need to make sure to have on me/bring for the shoot.

1. Enough memory on camera/Extra SD cards
2. Fully charged battery/Charger (Just in case you know :D)
3. Tripod

Also, I’ve started to plan out some potential shot’s I want of possible various compositions and POV’s.
